Jesus Loves Me is a Christian hymn written by Anna B. Warner The lyrics first appeared as a poem in the context of a novel called Say and Seal, written by Susan Warner and published in 1860. The tune was added in 1862 by William Batchelder Bradbury who found the text of "Jesus Loves Me" in a book, in which the words were spoken as a comforting poem to a dying child. Along with his tune, Bradbury added his own chorus "Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus Loves me..." After publication the song became one of the most popular Christian hymns in churches around the world.

David Swindell

David Swindell was my friend.  We had years that we spent much time together and years we passed periodically. We have eaten together, laughed together and prayed together.

Last week he asked me to do his funeral. What an honor. It is today. That's too quick.

He is my age. He has a wife Kendra, daughter Gabrielle(16), and a bunch of family and friends that loved him. I love him too. Pray for us. David is in good shape.

Monday Diet Update 04 27 2009

I wasn't as dedicated to the diet and exercise as I could and should have been last week. On a scale of 1-10 I was a 6.5 overall last week. I'm gonna try to do better this week.

Monday 4-20-2009 --- 247lbs
Monday 4-27-2009 --- 242lbs (still 6'4" so i didn't lose any height.)

Saturday Simone fix

We are having a big family get together/party/shower for Simone this afternoon. Josh's Dad and Mom are in town from Tennessee. This girl is seriously loved by her grandparents on both sides.

This is my beloved granddaughter in whom I am well pleased!

Friday Quicky Update

Diet and exercise are going great. I decided that I wont bore ya by posting daily blow by blow details. But, I will do a Monday weigh-in and update each week. It will keep me accountable.

Kandice and I are shooting Hailey Adams at her dance competition tonight at Will Rogers Auditorium. Low light no flash allowed! Photographically very challenging!! I think we are ready. We will see how we do. :)

Here is a shot of the Big Boy Canton in his Texas Rangers outfit that his Aunt Joy got him. I'll post new Simone shots tomorrow. Gotta run.

Tuesday Diet Update

Day 2 of the diet is successful! Ate right. Exercised. No intake after 7. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it until I reach my goal.

I know, I know. I get the email from you health nuts. "Dieting isn't the way to go. It's all about a life style change and permanent modification of eating habits... making a commitment to eating nothing but tree bark and bird seed for life." Sorry Gertrude, that just isn't gonna happen for me. I have a love affair with mexican food.

So, I am in for a life of dieting... lose the weight... slowly gain weight from eating too much mexican food... reaching a point that I decide it’s time to lose weight again. Yo-yo dieting IS my plan! I'm ok with that. Me and Oprah are 3 of a kind!

Don't try to change my mind. Don't send me internet articles. Don't even pray that God will change my dietary habits. God and I have talked this over and I believe if he didn’t want us eating animals he wouldn't have made 'em out of meat. :)

And for the record... I will not eat food that you can only buy at Central Market. That is way too fu fu. A guy loses man points for eating things that can only be found at Central Market. They don't even have M&Ms at the cash register! What kind of a loser grocery store is that?! The space close to the register should be reserved for tabloid magazines and CANDY. Not tree bark and bird seed!

I'll post my new weight every Monday.

I am calling myself out!

I am going on a diet starting today! I will not cheat. I won’t eat anything after 7 pm.

I will exercise every day! My version of exercise not yours. 10 min on the elliptical machine may not seem like much to you... but it is 8 minutes and 120 sec more than I am doing now.

I am not going for a rock hard body. That isn't one of my options and I am ok with that. I got comfortable with the unique look of my body a long time ago. I have one of the few concave chests in the world. I can’t build my pecs. I have no pecs to build. I do have rock hard abs, I just keep them protected under layers of padding. To say my biceps look like spaghetti would cause outrage and protest in the spaghetti community.

I simply would like to move from fluffy to medium soft. I would like my knees not to hurt quite as bad. I want to be able to play with my grand kids. I would like to turn this pear shaped body into a......smaller pear shaped body.

I weigh 247lbs this morning. I will get down to 235 maybe even 225. I’ll evaluate and decide when I reach 235. I would like to go from a 44 waist to a 40. Hey! Don’t laugh at my waist size buster boy! The reason you think you wear a 36 is because you tuck your pants under that belly of yours.

I’ll post a totally truthful update on how I did every day until I reach my goal.

Don’t send me dieting advice. Don’t ask me what kind of diet I'm on and tell me a better one. If you, like me, are also more than 50lbs over weight, don’t try to sell me a weight loss product. I don’t want a personal trainer. I refuse to pay someone to give me orders and be rude to me. I have people who will give me orders and be rude for free.  

There, now fear of embarrassment will drive me!

Grandkid Stuff

Canton and Simone both stayed the night Friday night. He was much more friendly but still a little confused at who the new kid was and why Tiffani's belly is suddenly gone.

Simone will be a week old tomorrow. Wow. She is beautiful. They are going home to their house tomorrow. I am not so sure she is ready for that... but I guess I will have to let her parents make that call.

This morning Canton and I were the only ones awake. After I fed him breakfast, he started pointing toward the door, signing "please", and saying maw maw. He wanted to walk down to my Mom and Dad's house. We did. I got to hang out for about an hour just loving life with my parents and my grandson. Sweet time.
